He jumps into the shower, brushes his teeth and changes within half hour. He runs out of the house and it dawns on him, he forgot to eat breakfast again so makes a stop at the local Tim Horton’s. The drive through is 5 cars deep and time is ticking. He orders a coffee and a donut to get him through the morning. He looks at the time and its 8:15 am. Luckily, his commute is only 15 minutes. He merges onto the highway only to find out that it’s backed up due to a traffic accident. He’s definitely going to be late again. He thinks to himself “Why does everything bad always happen to me?PART BStephen arrives at work at 8:45am and tries to sneak past his manager who he believes has it out for him. He manages to get to his desk without anyone seeing and feels relieved. Before he starts his work, Stephen always needs to clean his desk of clutter, wipe down the screen and disinfect his mouse and keyboard because you never know who might’ve used it the night before. He wants to make sure everything is perfect before he begins his day. He’s finally ready to get started so he turns on his computer and opens up his email only to see an email from his manager that there is an emergency meeting starting at 8:45am. He looks at the time and it’s just after nine. His heart rate increases, he starts to sweat and he can’t feel his legs. He runs to the conference room and opens the door. His entire team and his manager are starting at him as he tries to find a seat. He knows he hasn’t heard the end of this. PART CAfter the meeting, his manager asks Stephen to come to his office. He knew it, he is going to get fired. His manager says “I noticed that you’ve been coming into work late for the last couple weeks, is everything okay?” Stephen is shocked that his manager is being so supportive. He decides to open up to his manager and let him know what is going on. Stephen tells his manager that he was elected as the Event Planner for his church and that the demands are more than he expected. Every night he has to walk his dog, answer emails, respond to vendors, call up church folk, clean his house, make homemade meals from scratch, take a shower, run 5km, practice the piano, do 100 hand stands, watch 3 hours of television, study and do homework for his night class. After his talk with his manager, Stephen felt a little better. PART DDuring Stephen’s lunch break, he received 10 texts, 2 voicemails, 7 work emails, 4 personal emails, 3 tweets, 4 Facebook messages and a letter from his neighbour. His neighbour is the Assistant Event Planner for the church. His neighbour is the one who’s been keeping him up at night with things that need to get done. Stephen wishes he was retired like his neighbour so that he would have all the free time in the world to be the Event Planner. Stephen, like the trooper that he is, responds to all the texts, emails, tweets, Facebook messages and even the letter. He knows that when he gets home, his neighbour will be waiting for him with new lists of things to do. Being the nice guy that he is, Stephen will oblige.ScienceHealth ScienceNursing
