How do these interventions differ from your usual primary prevention strategies?” 1.A vulnerable group that that sparked my interest was pregnant women residing in rural areas. I chose this group because it’s the most common group that I interact with throughout my day at work as a registered nurse in an outpatient setting. According to the American public health association, the mortality rate of pregnant women is two times more in rural areas than an urban. One of the social determinants to the health inequality in this group can be linked to geographic location. Since this population resides in the rural area, it is more difficult for them to access OBGYNs, clinics or hospitals. (lee,H. Et al, 2020) This can play a huge role in maternal health due to the lack of OB care and fetal monitoring. Another social determinant that is affecting the poor health of pregnant women in this area would be economic status or finances. Due to the lack of finances women that are pregnant cannot afford prenatal care or prenatal medicines which results in health issues for affect both mother and baby. 2,Interventions that can help mitigate social determinants in relevance to lower class pregnant woman could be to increase access to health care. This can start off as groups in the community held by doctors and nurses who specialize in OB care with experience on healthy to advance pregnancy needs. There are many benefits to providing care in a group setting one factor is time. In an office setting, patients only have 15 minutes to see the provider therefore care is rushed, and patients do not have the time to be educated properly. In a group setting there is almost triple the time and providers will not be rushed, and the patients have time to address issues or concerns. ( Walker &Worrell, 2008) Another benefit to groups is that when others verbalize a concern it will prompt others to think of concerns they might not have remembered. This promotes trust, saves time and establishes a patient provider relationship. Cluster care can be completed in groups. Patients can complete this like lab work, ultrasounds, and education all in one day, which helps save time and makes it easier for those with transportation issues. ScienceHealth ScienceNursing
